Nitrous Oxide Sedation: Fear and apprehension preceding a dental appointment are common. Inhalation of a mild medicated gas (nitrous oxide) results in a feeling of relaxation and well-being. The use of this gas for routine dental procedures is a safe, efficient method for reducing anxiety.
Nitrous oxide and oxygen are given to patients in controlled concentrations, using a machine that safely regulates the flow of gases. A nose mask transports the gases to your nostrils. After a few minutes of breathing the gases, it will be possible to inject the local anesthetic without pain. You will feel lightheaded, or euphoric, and should feel completely relaxed. A feeling of warmth and tingling is another common sensation. After completion of your dental procedures, Dr. Raul Reyes will have you breathe oxygen for a few minutes. Your recovery will be rapid and complete.
